Classy Glass by Donna
Meet the Maker
Here are a few things about me. Art and creativity have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Having a creative outlet in my life is essential to me.
Over the years, I've tried everything from pottery to doll-making and teddy-bear making. Then there is drawing and painting, which really took off during Covid. And fused glass don't forget the fused glass. Plus beading and crocheting. All of it is worth a shot for me.
My website offers more than just glass that I create, it includes anything that I create and offer for sale. It is not possible for me to keep it all, no matter how much I want to.
Currently, I work out of my home studio in Southern California.
How it’s Made
I take a perfectly fine empty wine bottle and stick it in a glass kiln. Then, I fire up the kiln to around 1500 degrees and let it heat slowly, then cool even more slowly. That whole process takes about 12 to 15 hours. I could stop there, but no, I take that slumped bottle and add a decorative design to it. The bottle with the design is put into the kiln for a second time. This time, it is not heated to such as high temperature, but still takes almost as long. The design is permanent, food safe and unique to each bottle.
